Enrichment/Outdoor Learning/PE

PE

We deliver high quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all our pupils to succeed in PE and in developing life skills. We want to teach them skills to keep them safe such as being able to swim. We also want to teach our pupils how to cooperate and collaborate with others as part of an effective team, understanding fairness and equality of play to embed life-long values. Our learning aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all pupils at The Stables Independent School, not only through the sporting skills taught but also through the underpinning values and disciplines that PE, outdoor learning and enrichment promote.

Our PE curriculum focuses mainly on physical fitness, athletics, net and wall and outdoor and adventurous activities. These activities may take place on or off the school site.

It is our intention to develop a life-long love of physical activity, sport and PE. We aim to help ensure a positive and healthy physical and mental outlook in the future and help our pupils to develop essential skills like leadership and teamwork. We strive to give every pupil the opportunity to develop skills in PE, consider the impact on their mental health and fitness, and perform and evaluate.

Swimming is part of the PE curriculum for every class and is taught at Victory swimming pool by a qualified swimming coach.

Outdoor Learning and Enrichment Curriculum

We have carefully chosen a number of external providers for our Outdoor Learning, all with extensive experience in the delivery of a range of activities and skills for pupils with additional needs. Our intention is that through participation in these experiences, our pupils will be able to significantly increase the development of the life skills needed to be successful in future educational placements, leaving care and ultimately their adult life. Through giving our pupils a range of experiences within outdoor learning and our enrichment programme that they would not ordinarily have, and by encouraging them to to step outside their comfort zones, we intend for them to significantly develop their skills of perseverance and resilience and to be able to apply these across their lives and their academic studies.

Certain activities take place within school. These are planned and delivered by experienced teaching staff. Some of these activities link with our DT and life skills learning.

Throughout the course of the year, the pupils have access to a selection of the following activities:

*bushcraft

*indoor climbing walls

*surfing

*paddleboarding

*sailing

*horse riding
